Last Sunday IFAB with FIFA released their latest strategy document entitled “Fair Play”. I was very pleased to see a whole section that set out “to improve player behaviour and increase respect”. I like to think that Playford are modelled on my own sense of fair play and that other players at the club pride themselves the way the teams play football. This is not just some platitude that we trot out either, we can prove it, Playford have won a Suffolk FA, two Ipswich Sunday Football League and four divisional fairplay awards.
One section that caught my eye was about “Increased responsibility for the captain”. It suggested that:
I unofficially introduced a “captain only” rule in regard to communicating with the referee three years ago and for two seasons it seemed to adhered to by the players, however after a season of poor discipline surrounding our Reserve team last years, it is something that I am keen to push harder this coming campaign. The document is not detailed in discussing the above ideas but l believe it is something we as a club could formalise over the next month before we begin our pre-season matches.
