Ross Leeks 150 Goals

Ross Leeks scores a record 150th goal

Ross Leeks has stood on 147 goals since helping Playford through the first round of the Sunday Shield by beating Real Shepherd & Dog 6-2 in October 2009. But almost 2000 days later (1996 to be exact, for Bully) Ross scored possibly the quickest hat-trick of his career to move swiftly from the burdensome 147 to the sublime 150 goals for Playford.

His first goal was well taken, beating the offside trap, rounding the ‘keeper and slotting into the empty net, his second a clinical close range finish and his third a confidently struck penalty. As soon as 150 goals were safely recorded he asked to be substituted, he left the field to generous applause from the Playford team and supporters.

On the hat-trick and immediately subbing himself.

It went exactly as I wanted it. I've always said as soon as I scored my 150 that would be it.

Ross made his debut in the 1999/2000 season and scored in his first two games. Limited to only 9 games after an ankle break against Kesgrave Vikings, it would be the following season that he would shine. In his first full season he plundered 32 goals, still the only player to reach 30 for the season, and fired the club to the division championship.

He was instrumental in Playford’s rise up the league, in addition to the Championship season he was also the club’s leading scorer between 2003 and 2005, as we rose from division 10 to division 4.

He played his part in Playford’s title tilt in 2007/2008 scoring 9 goals, half from a new position on the wing.

Injury has curtailed a lot of his recent game time, but, combined with a goalscoring debut, scoring a hat-trick to reach 150 goals feels like a fitting way to bookend his Playford career.
