The disciplinary incidents this season within the Reserve Team was due for discussion by the management board at the end of the season, however the last two matches have meant that we have had to escalate this.
The discipline of the Reserve team this season has been poor. There have been 14 disciplinary incidents including the abandonment of a game which I personally still find despicable.
Daryl has admitted that, as manager, he feels responsible for the poor discipline but I'm pretty sure that at no time has he suggested that the team go out to collect bookings, moan at the referee or get into fights. He is not a baby-sitter and everyone should know in their own mind what is and is not acceptable on a football pitch. In addition I would hope that players understand that Playford Football Club try to hold themselves to a higher standard than most other clubs. I understand that we will collect the occasional caution but the volume of cards this season is a significant problem. People might think that you need that aggressive edge to win matches and that it inevitably leads to the accumulation of bookings, however I can tell you that is absolute rubbish. Playford won their first title without collecting a single card and their most recent title with only three.
I suspect that over the last two weeks Daryl would have felt genuinely let down, the team had been in a great position in the cup and have let discipline get in the way of achieving something special.
Moving forward we will be enforcing the following, anyone cautioned in the final two Reserve Team league matches of the season will be fined by the club (in addition to the FA fine) and suspended for one match. The management board will also be discussing ways to try and improve the discipline within the club as we feel it has got out of hand and is damaging the reputation of the club.
By making yourself available for selection you are agreeing to the new measures.
