Thanks to the Winter and Spring league setup it was another season of two halves, with the Spring league proving a more successful campaign. It is therefore easier to remember the performances of our attacking players when looking back over the season. However, Sam was chosen as Manager's Player of the Season because of his consistency and role in the team throughout 2017/18. He played as many matches as anyone, with 22 appearances coming all at centre-back where he has cemented his place as a first choice. Whether playing in a two or a three in the middle of back line Sam put in strong performances week in, week out. In a team that has struggled for genuine centre backs in recent years it is a credit to him that Rich Jones' regular absences this term went relatively unnoticed.
Sam's highlight of the season came with his only goal of the season, but what a goal it was! Having been 3-2 down to Walton Wanderers with time starting to run out we found an equaliser. We then won a late, late corner which Sam headed firmly into the back of the Walton net to cue mass celebrations and one of the most enjoyable moments in recent Playford history.
On a separate note Sam is happy to step up and help out in running the first team on match days when Rich isn't around and he did more than his fair share of that this season but it was showing his best form in a Playford shirt for much of the season that saw him take the Manager's Player award home.
