Playford are looking to recruit young players

Playford launch Young Player award

Because Playford are actively looking to encourage more young players into the squads so for the upcoming 2018/2019 season we are adding a Young Player of the Season award.

I was quite nervous about joining my first adult team, however my nerves soon disappeared, in no small part thanks to Jonesy and the rest of the squad making me feel welcome.

Since the formation of the Reserves five seasons ago we have seen a large decline in the number of U23's playing for Playford. In our Reserves' first season (2013/2014) 60% of appearances were made by players under 23 years of age but by last season that figure had dropped to 24%.

To qualify for the award players must be 23 or under on the opening day of the season.

Only four players aged 23 or under made more than six appearances last season and one of those starts 2018/2019 as a 24 year old, which means there is a great chance for a new young player to pick up an award in their first season with the club.

Thinking of Joining...

The club have successfully integrated a number of youngsters into the squad in recent history, most notably:

  • In 2010 we brought through 5 players from Wickham Market Youth FC.
  • In 2013 we brought through 4 players from Sutton Heath Youth FC.
  • In 2016 we brought through 4 players from Martlesham Youth FC

I The faith shown in me in that first season was a huge confidence boost and really helped me develop.
