Both sides lost on the opening day, the Firsts soundly beaten 5-1 by Holbrook and the Reserves defeated by Suffolk Spartans.
Playford and Holbrook were level 1-1 at half time, a goal from Nick Bingham assisted by Ben Thomas. But they tired during the second half and Holbrook were able to take significant advantage.
The Reserves were involved in an 8 goal frenzy. The first half saw five goals scored in twelve minutes and the second half, three in three.
Suffolk Spartans had a goal ruled out for offside before they took the lead. Playford responded through Zak Fonseka five minutes later. Only four minutes elapsed before Spartans regained their advantage only for Daryl Francis to finish low under the 'keeper a minute later, 2-2. But two minutes later on the half hour mark, Spartan took the lead 3-2 and the score stayed this way until half time.
28 minutes of the second half were gone when a crazy three minute spell resulted in three more goals. Spartans extended their lead to 5-2 but John Waller scored direct from the fifth goal kick off.
