Playford 2-0 Northam Celtic

It was another Sunday morning in which Playford graced the hallow turf at Kesgrave high school, Playford were trying to bounce back from a drubbing the previous weekend and welcomed Northam Celtic to the fortress.

In an even and cagey first half Playford had majority of the ball, Andy started in goal, Hunty started right back, with Will Gill and Luke at CB, Sticks started left back. A midfield 3 of Dan, Josh and Chris looked to be a foundation for which we could build on, Ben and Kingy were flanking either side of Daryl Francis.

Playford had a large share of possession but the visitors dug in and battled bravely to ensure they went in level at the half. The highlight of a cagey first half was the home sides linesman Ellis Rowland asking the ref how long as he was clearly flagging from well flagging.

Playford found their groove in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts as Daryl and Dan both scored to put Playford ahead. The gaffer freshened up the side Sticks came off for Chris Jones, Hunty came off for Ciro, Kingy came off for Rusty, Ellis replaced the gaffer and Ben came off for the returning Grant.

We welcomed back part time childminder Mr Saturday Grant Overett to the first team squad today. There’s been many conspiracies to how he injured his ankle ranging from Hitting too many half volleys in the warm up to impress Kingy, trying to pick out Godbold with diags, getting attacked by Rory or my personal favourite, he injured it while chasing skirt in Zante

Playford refreshed after the changes continued to push for more goals, Daryl saw a penalty saved by a combination of the goalkeepers knees and shins, Chris Jones attempted to throw back the years with an audacious first time volley, back to goal off the back of a dodgy kick from the keeper, a fierce effort nearly broke the corner flag. Playford could not believe a third goal was not added, Dan smith who was 3 yards out managed to hit both posts where it was easier to score.

A very professional result for Playford and another clean sheet for the defensive unit for us to build on.
